A terrified boyfriend turned to the internet for advice when he found a secret box full of strange items that belonged to him, hidden away by his girlfriend.
They say love is blind. Well, I prefer an updated version of the phrase: Love is deaf, dumb, and blind. People do all sorts of weird things when they've been struck with Cupid's arrow and oftentimes it takes something monumental to jolt them to reality. One man recently turned to the internet for advice after being hit by a Joe Goldberg sized dose of reality. The poor chap was utterly creeped out when he found a bunch of oddities that belonged to him at some point or the other, secretly stashed away in a box that belonged to his girlfriend.
Reddit user ellamk_ found himself in quite the predicament when a bout of curiosity gave him more than he'd bargained for. When his girlfriend of just about a year left for a university lecture, leaving him in the room, boredom got the better of him and he decided to take a peek into a pile of boxes she stored above her wardrobe. One box stowed away at the back caught his attention and upon opening it he found a collection of items that left him "genuinely scared" and at a complete loss as to how to proceed. The 21-year-old shared his plight in a lengthy post on the website which, frankly, makes us want to scream "Run for your life!
We have been together for just over a year and we have never had any issues apart from minor arguments that were easily resolved. Up until recently, I have never noticed anything strange about her behavior, he began his post. He then goes on to describe how he came to find the 'box at the back which was like a Ted Baker cardboard box that a handbag had come in or something' in which he found an extensive collection of stuff he used to own. There were odd socks in there that she has taken. A toothbrush that I thought I had lost after our holiday. Bits of hair from (presumably) my comb. Toenail clippings. Receipts that I assume she stole from my wallet. She even has things like empty wrappers of food that I know we're mine, he wrote.
The relatively harmless pieces of memorabilia (ahem) in the box also included a piece of unidentified glass, a USB phone charger, a half used bar of soap, a pair of his boxer shorts, used gum, a spoon, and used plasters. However, it didn't end there. The understandably freaked out boyfriend goes on to describe the strangest and most worrying item he found in the box. The most worrying thing was a used condom I found in there. I don't even know how she managed to keep that? And a few empty condom wrappers as well. I even found a little tablet in there that looked a lot like my antibiotics that I took for my tonsils before Christmas. And I definitely remember losing one of my last dosage, he wrote.
He added that though there were more items in the box, he couldn't remember what they were as he put it all back as he'd originally found it and left the room immediately. He then asked for advice on how to proceed writing, She doesn't know I found it yet. My girlfriend behaves normally and this is the first time I've seen anything weird. She has never acted obsessive or creepy or anything. I don't want to confront her about it because she will know I was looking through her things. But then again, what else am I supposed to do? I love her so much but I am genuinely scared. I have been sat here trying so hard to come up with logical explanations as to why she is doing this. Any ideas?
I don't know about you, but the first image that came to mind when I read the thread was the scene from Netflix's You, where Elizabeth Lail's character Beck finds a creepy box full of mementos her boyfriend Joe (Penn Badgley) had collected over the course of their relationship. Much like the real-life scenario here, the fictional box contained some really questionable items of the likes of teeth and used tampons. Reddit users were quick to point out the eerie resemblance between the two stories, with some suggesting he watch the show with her to gauge her reaction.
Here's where the love is blind part comes in. A couple of days after his original post, the man came forward with an update. He revealed that he'd confronted his girlfriend about the box. I told my girlfriend that I found the box and she didn't seem bothered in the slightest that I found it. She is quite sensitive so I expected tears but got none. She kinda brushed it off like it wasn't a big deal at all. I told her that the gross stuff was unacceptable and that she was wrong to take my parker pens that belonged to my grandad. She said that she had the intention of returning them to me. It was the best case scenario compared to the other possible explanations. She said that she was keeping them because they made her feel close to me, he wrote.
The man further wrote that he'd decided to let the incident go as she has promised to dispose of the items in the box. Umm... yeah. As for the used condom, she said that she kept the condom and wrapper because she thinks that she might be pregnant because she is late. She said that if the condom didn't work and she is pregnant, that she wanted to keep it as memorabilia of when it happened. She said that she can see that it was strange now, but at the time she wanted to keep it and didn't mean any harm, he wrote. He concluded his post thanking everyone for their concerned messages and claiming he was excited at the possibility of a pregnancy. User holden---- best expressed what we're all thinking in their comment which reads, naaaa bro. don't tell me you buy this story... She had a damn box filled with your hair and toenail clippings... wtf. run while you can.
