Gillette Posts A Photo Of Plus-Sized Model In Bikini And People Can't Handle It!

Razor company Gillette may often bring in new sports stars and celebrities to endorse their products and boost their sales. However, the global brand may just have got their marketing strategy all wrong this time, and it's not us, but the social media users that are claiming as such, reports CBS

In a recent turn of events, an ad for Gillette’s Venus razor featuring a plus-size model has sparked major controversy. The photo shows the 33-year-old model Anna O'Brien frolicking in the ocean, with a message that reads: “Go out there and slay the day.”

However, the picture was at the receiving end of severe backlash on Twitter after several users claimed that the ad was glamorizing obesity and that Gillette was "irresponsibly" promoting an unhealthy lifestyle for its own business.

Some Twitters were up in arms over the ad, "This woman will die of heart disease before @potus completes his second term. I hope she's just as happy and carefree for her last 6 years of life. Everybody should live themselves, but let's not call it healthy."

Meanwhile, another added, "Wow, this is so unhealthy! Obesity causes cardiovascular diseases, type 2 Diabetes, sleep apnea, depression & certain types of cancer and death. Why would you show younger girls a picture like this? Another reason not to purchase your products!"

Although social media can be a very mean place, there are some kind-hearted souls indeed who really appreciated the body positive movement from Gillette. Several users have pointed out that the company has done the right thing by representing different bodies.

And following the severe backlash, even Gillette decided to address the issue and wrote, "Venus is committed to representing beautiful women of all shapes, sizes, and skin types because ALL types of beautiful skin deserve to be shown. We love Anna because she lives out loud and loves her skin no matter how the “rules” say she should display it."

The debate involving unhealthy lifestyle and body positive movement has been ongoing for a long time and there seems to be no concrete answer around it. Some believe that it is not right to promote obesity as it is seriously not good for health, meanwhile, another section believes that a person is beautiful, irrespective of their weight and that no one should be judged. Now clearly, there is no right or wrong on this and it is all about perception.

Meanwhile, the plus-size fashion, fitness and lifestyle blogger Anna has spoken following the outrage. She wrote, "So this weekend I went viral yet again because some random people didn't like my body and had nothing better to do than to make sure everyone knew it. Normally, this would have stressed me out to no end, and I'd find myself refreshing all the things as the drama unfolded while simultaneously being distraught by the uncomfortable uncertainty these situations can create."

"However this weekend was different. Ironically, for most of this mess I had no clue it was actually going on." She also added that she was "too busy meeting awesome people" and "learning about the future".

Amid all the backlash and criticisms that Gillette has been receiving, the ad has gone viral and has got really many people talking. Meanwhile, if you want to know more about Anna, she is a plus-size model who proudly poses in skimpy clothes on her Instagram account. One of her photos including a shot of her posing in Times Square sporting nothing but a bikini had also gone viral recently.

Now people might have opinions about anything and everything in this day and age. Each person is beautiful in their own way and body shaming anyone is absolutely wrong. And at the same time, it is also equally important to live a healthy lifestyle.
