Shannen Doherty Is Willing To Be A Part Of 'Beverly Hills, 90210' Reboot If They Pay Homage To Luke Perry, Says Report

Prior to Luke's death, both Shannen and he refused to resume their chracters in the upcoming Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot.

Growing up, Dylan McKay was one character we all had a crush on and Luke Perry was one of the major reasons we watched Beverly Hills, 90210. When the rumors of a Beverly Hills getting a reboot surfaced, longtime fans of the American teen drama jumped with joy. But, sadly, the day it was officially announced, Luke Perry suffered a deadly stroke at his residence and was hospitalized immediately. The 52-year-old actor couldn't recover from the stroke and breathed his last on 4th March. His passing away so soon and unexpectedly has come as a major shock to his fans, friends, and family.

Luke played notable parts in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 8 Seconds, Criminal Minds, and Windfall but was best known for his portrayal of Dylan in Beverly Hills, 90210 and became a teen idol in the late 90s. Shannen Doherty, who played Perry's on-screen girlfriend in Beverly Hills and one of his closest friends in real life released a heartfelt message when she learned her beloved friend had passed away. “I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind."

“Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and a never-ending well of integrity and love. Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained intact. There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and of course life in general," she added revealing that the two were looking for show ideas so they can work together again.

"We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives. I will miss him every day. Every minute. Every second. Luke loved his family. He raved about his kids and how proud he was of them. He showed me videos of them often. They were his heart and for him, his biggest accomplishment. A couple of weeks ago in February, Luke and I met up for lunch. He chose the restaurant based on who would allow his dog. I walked in and there he was, smiling, with his dog Penny and her bed under the booth, happy as can be. I will never forget — and will miss — Luke looking at me with that smile of his saying … Shan." Both Shannen and Luke, however, refused to be a part of the mockumentary reboot of the show.

But now, according to US Mag, Shannen is considering joining the star cast of the reboot if they agree to pay homage to the late actor. “Luke was Shannen’s favorite in the cast. She may participate now if they somehow pay homage to him," a close friend of Shannen revealed. Tori Spelling, who played Donna Martin in the iconic show, earlier confirmed that a reboot of the show was happening with the original cast.

When asked about the rumors, the 45-year-old actress admitted, “It’s confirmed. We’re doing a new '90210.'" Adding that the old cast will come back for the show, Tori said, "The fans will be pleasantly surprised, though, because we will intercut that with scenes from the show. So it’ll be a whole ensemble cast playing a heightened version of themselves." She had also added that Shannen isn't returning and Luke is busy with Riverdale but he might do as many episodes as he can, before the devastating news of his death broke.

"It’s not technically a reboot, because I feel like everyone has seen the reboot. We don’t want to be the last ones like doing the reboot thing, and no one wants to see like old versions of ourselves, but they do want to see us playing our characters, so what we’re doing is the entire cast is playing heightened versions of themselves," Spelling explained about the mockumentary to E! adding that they would love to have Shannen back.

“Think Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes, in an hourlong show, and we’re all playing heightened versions, so it could be fictional, it could be non-fictional, people will have to guess. And then we will have pop-ins because we’re behind the scenes trying to do the reboot," Spelling elaborated, spilling beans about the reboot before Luke's demise. To pay respects to the legendary actor, Riverdale has shut down production of its upcoming season temporarily. “We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the ‘Riverdale,’ Warner Bros. and CW family," executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Jon Goldwater told People in a statement. No official date for the Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot has been announced as of yet. Will you be watching the reboot if they pay homage to the late star?
